Buckwheat Cover Crop - 10 LB

Buckwheat Cover Crop - 10 LB

Description

Buckwheat grows as a summer annual which can be used as a green manure crop. It is suitable for almost any soil type and the seeds remain on stalk after ripening.

This cover crop is low maintenance during the growing season and inexpensive to grow because it requires no pesticides and little fertilizer.

Buckwheat is a short-season cash crop that fits into rotations at a time when fields might otherwise be idle.

Sow seeds at 40 to 50 lbs per acre or 3 lbs per 1,000 square feet after all danger of frost has passed in the Spring or Summer.

All seeds from Outsidepride are non-gmo and are intended for the current & the following growing season. All flower seeds are produced from open pollinated plants.

How many square ft will 10lbs cover? "3,300 square feet."

I read an article suggesting buckwheat as a winter crop to improve soil for the next season. I'm in Ohio, zone 6; does this make sense? "I actually heard you want to plant it after a crop has been taken out of your garden in the fall to be used as a green manure. I'm trying this out this year. From what I gather, it sounds like you want it to die from the frost and you're to leave it, so your soil is covered in the winter and the dead plants give nutrients to your soil."

What kind of buckwheat is this? Is it unprocessed? Is it unhulled? "I can tell you it is unprocessed and has intact hulls because I was easily able to sprout it for my parrots. 😊 (Processed and de-hulled seeds won't sprout or grow. These grew into wonderful delicious greens!)"

Are you able to collect seeds once they flower to plant next year? "There were seeds after the flowers were done. But they were much smaller than the original seeds from sellers. I did collected some and will plant them this summer. Don’t know if they will grow as well. But will try. It’s still too cold outside where I live. I’ll have to wait til May to do so. Good luck with your flowers."
