This Pompon Aster is a terrific performer in the summer garden. Callistephus have large 2 - 3 inch blooms that are loaded with petals. This variety is blue in color with white petals in the center. They are very attractive to butterflies, and they make wonderful cut flowers as well. Pompon Asters are quick to establish in a sunny garden, and they prefer moist, well-drained soil. Deadhead the spent blooms to prolong the bloom season. Start the Aster seed indoor 4 weeks before the end of frost season. Cover the seed very thinly with soil, keep the seed moist, and maintain a temperature between 60 - 70F. Germination is usually within 21 days. Transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed and space the plants 9 - 12 inches apart.

Aster Pompon Blue grows as an annual in USDA Zones: 3 - 9 and is a full sun loving plant but can also thrive in partial shaded areas.

Callistephus flowers are easy to establish and very attractive to butterflies. They will have dark blue blooms with white centers from early summer to early fall.

These Blue Asters are perfect for flower gardens and because of their sturdy, 20 inch tall stems they make excellent long lasting cut flowers.

Sow these heirloom seeds in well-drained soil at 3 - 5 seeds per plant and keep moist until germination occurs in 7 - 21 days.
